Yesterday, Frances Willard Elementary School, Rock Island Academy, and Edison Junior High School joined The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center’s Soul of the City 2026 Parade, while Thomas Jefferson Elementary & Ridgewood Elementary participated in the Milan Fall Harvest Parade!
Our Family and Community Engagement Team was also there, connecting with families and providing helpful resources and information. Several of our staff members also joined local organizations they’re involved in.
We’re so grateful to be part of a community that comes together to celebrate, connect, and support one another!
Reminder: There is no school tomorrow, Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. Several of our schools and clubs will be joining the Rock Island Labor Day Parade. We hope to see you there!

🍎 Fresh produce. Healthy habits. Bright futures. 🥕
Across Rock Island-Milan School District 41, scholars are enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables while discovering nutritious foods that support their growth, wellness, and success.
Behind this initiative is our incredible Nutrition Services team, whose dedication ensures scholars have access to fresh, nutritious options that fuel learning and help them thrive. Their work goes far beyond preparing meals – they create positive experiences that support the well-being of every scholar, every day.
This initiative reflects our 2030 Strategic Plan – Priority 5: We will nurture relationships and connections with all members of our school community.

Here are some important dates to keep in mind this month!

Please join us for our first Committee of the Whole meeting of the 2026–2027 school year on Tuesday, August 25, at 6 p.m. at Rock Island Academy.
The meeting will feature a presentation from Principal Dr. Thomas Ryan, with the Committee of the Whole focusing on Supporting Scholars with Disabilities.
Join us for this important conversation as we work together to support our scholars, schools, and community. We hope to see you there!

Please see the attached flyer for more details. We hope to see you there!

We have had a great start to the 2026-27 school year. We have a few announcements for you.
- We have several fall sports (Football, Cross Country, Volleyball, Cheerleading and Golf) which are getting started. If your student is interested, please have them reach out to Mrs. Martinez or Mrs. Mikaio for more information.
- EJHS is working on a year end attendance field trip again. Any student who misses 10 or less days for the entire year will be eligible. This will be based on their Skyward attendance.
- EJHS will be providing the dental bus again. This is a great opportunity if you would like to take advantage. Please contact Nurse Peters if you have any questions.
Have a great one!
The first three days of school have been filled with smiles, new beginnings, and lots of excitement across the district! Superintendent Dr. Sharon Williams visited schools throughout the district, checking in with staff and scholars and dropping off a few goodies for our principals along the way.
We’ve loved seeing our scholars transition into new grades, meet new teachers, reconnect with friends, and take on new opportunities for learning and growth.
Let’s make it an incredible year! 🎉📖
